The route card
1
Fly to Lukla
Fixed-wing from Kathmandu into Lukla at 2860 m, weather permitting — and it does. Loads weighed and distributed among the porter team, permits stamped at the checkpoint. Short shakeout walk on the flagstone path toward Phakding and back. Tea house night. The Khumbu begins quietly, as it should.

Up to Namche
The trail follows the Dudh Kosi through Phakding and Monjo, crossing the high suspension bridges, then the long forested hill to Namche Bazaar at 3440 m. Steady pace, heart rates logged at the rest stops. First sight of Kongde across the valley. Lodge beds, dal bhat, early lights.

Above Namche
Acclimatisation loop to the Everest View ridge at 3880 m — Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam lined up in the morning clear. Down through Khumjung village, past the school and the gompa. Back in Namche by mid-afternoon for kit checks. Climb high, sleep low. The oldest rule still works.

4
Namche rest
Scheduled rest at 3440 m. Technical gear laid out on the lodge floor and checked piece by piece: tools, screws, the sixty-metre half ropes, tents for the high camps. P-04 walks the team through the southwest ridge topo, pitch by pitch. Bakery visit sanctioned. Batteries charged, doubts aired.

Into the Kyajo Drangka
Leave the main trail at Mende and climb into the Kyajo Drangka, a narrow hanging valley that sees few boots. Base camp on the grass shelf at 4550 m beside the stream. Yaks unloaded, kitchen tent raised, puja flags strung. The peak shows its ridge briefly through cloud.

First rotation
Acclimatisation carry to the advanced base site at 5000 m: ropes, hardware and four days of food cached under stones. Slabs and moraine most of the way, one short scrambling step. Back down to base camp for the night. The rotation is dull and necessary. Both are the point.

Camp one
Move up past the cache to camp one at 5300 m, two tents on a levelled moraine crest below the glacier. Afternoon spent fixing the first rope-lengths toward the col. Water from melted ice now; the stove roster begins. Cloud down by four, snow grains ticking on the fly sheet.

Back to breathe
Down to the advanced base tents at 5000 m to rest before the push. Sleeping here rather than the valley keeps the acclimatisation banked without the wear of camp one. Forecast checked twice by satellite: a two-day window opening. Feet inspected, food eaten deliberately. Nobody says summit. Everybody means it.

Camp two
Through camp one and onto the glacier shelf, then snow slopes to camp two at 5600 m, tucked under the first towers of the southwest ridge. Three hours of ledge-cutting for a marginal platform. Ropes racked for the morning, boots kept in the sleeping bags. Alarm 00:30. The ridge holds still.

Summit day
Mixed ground from the first hour: granite steps, ice runnels, the crux corner at two-thirds height climbed on frontpoints and jams. TD, and honest about it. Summit of Kyajo Ri, 6186 m, at 08:50 — Everest to the east, silence everywhere else. Twelve rappels back to camp two by mid-afternoon.

Clear the mountain
Camps stripped in descending order — nothing stays on the hill but bootprints. Heavy sacks down the moraine to base camp at 4550 m by early afternoon. Kitchen tent warm, ropes coiled for the last time. The ridge line gets a final long look over tea. Filed, dated, done.

Walk out to Lukla
The long walk out: down the Kyajo Drangka to Mende, through Namche while the market wakes, and along the river to Lukla at 2860 m by dusk. Flight confirmed for morning. E-06 closes at thirteen hours on the move — the quiet, necessary end of a twelve-day file.
